about

Dolore Sine is about...well, it's about lots of things, but it's mainly about money. About what it's like to have it, and what it's like to need it, what it's like to want it and what it's like to steal it. About what happens when you have too much of it and need to find fun things to do with it. It's angsty and features atmospheric music with famous speeches over it and even has a title that is a pun IN LATIN.

But it's very deep and meaningful really.

Track Name: Dolore Sine
sic trans in gloria mundi
sine dolore malafaciemus.

(Thus passes the glory of the world;
we shall do evil deeds without regret.)
Track Name: Playing Cards
My job's a game of playing cards.
We all make mistakes when playing cards.

He thinks he can make mistakes when playing cards.

We expected better than this from an international institution;
We're not playing cards;
We're not playing your game of cards.

Our lives are games of playing cards.
Track Name: Song On The Times
You working men of England one moment now attend
While I unfold the treatment of the poor upon this land
For nowadays the factory lords have brought the labour low
And daily are contriving plans to prove our overthrow.

So arouse! You sons of freedom! The world seems upside down:
They scorn the poor man as a thief in countryside and town.

There's different parts in Ireland, it's true what I do state
There's hundreds that are starving for they can't get food to eat
And if they go unto the rich to ask them for relief
They bang their door all in their face as if they were a thief.

So arouse! You sons of freedom! The world seems upside down:
They scorn the poor man as a thief in countryside and town.

Alas how altered are the times, rich men despise the poor
And pay them off without remorse, quite scornful at their door
And if a man is out of work his Parish pay is small
Enough to starve himself and wife, his children and all.

So arouse! You sons of freedom! The world seems upside down:
They scorn the poor man as a thief in countryside and town.

So to conclude and finish these few verses I have made
I hope to see before it's long men for their labour paid
Then we'll rejoice with heart and voice and banish all our woes
Before we do old England must pay us what she owes.

So arouse! You sons of freedom! The world seems upside down:
They scorn the poor man as a thief in countryside and town.
Track Name: Cashiered
You look at me through the window
And I struggle to see where did the money go;
What happened to you? What was it really for?
You check your account: you're still three grand overdrawn
And I shake my head as you stand there your face forlorn;
What happened to you? What was it really for?

We're going to have to take your house,
We're going to have to take your car,
We're going to take your life and make it ours.
But when you're ready to come back,
Don't forget we do the best APR.
Track Name: They've Got Our Stuff
When times were good they were all over me,
"Would I like a bigger house, or perhaps a new TV?"

You can put it on our card; that's what they're there for.
You can put it on our card; don't worry yourself for now.

But now times aren't so good,
But now they want their money back.

You'll have to sell your house, your shiny new TV,
You'll have to move out and live with your family/
We want our money back today.

So now we've lost our house, our shiny new TV,
They're on the phone, they're on the phone,
"Where's the rest of our money?"
The bailiffs came at two o'clock and barged their way in;
The bailiffs came at two o'clock and took everything.

But now times aren't so good,
But now they've got their money back.
Now we've sold our house, our shiny new TVs
Now we've moved out and live with our families.

We've got our money back today.
Track Name: Why Even Try
There's a place inside my head:
I used to live outside, now I live in here instead.
And every time I sing to you, I wonder if you care.
Why can't you treat me like they treat me in there?
Why do you keep looking at me with that blank, empty stare?

Softly on the grass
I hear your footsteps gliding past
And they sound as if you're treading on the ants but
I don't care, you've caused me more pain than I could ever take;
It's not as if you think about what you do.

I've been here so long I've lost count of all the years
I've sung my song and no-one hears
And no-one cares and no-one's listening,
So why even try?
Why even try?
Track Name: Little Boxes
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same,
There's a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

And the people in the houses
All went to the university
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same
And there's doctors and lawyers
And business executives
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/m/malvina_reynolds/little_boxes.html ]
And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school,
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same.

And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same,
There's a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
Track Name: Weep O Mine Eyes
Weep, o mine eyes and cease not,
Alas, these your spring tides methinks increase not.
O when begin you to swell so high
That I may drown me in you?
